"Street labeled 'Exter' and 'Curved' streets"

In the heart of Detmold, the city's future is shrouded in uncertainty, according to the experts of the Institute for Retail Research Cologne. The city's urban development is a complex tapestry, with numerous factors at play and many developments currently not foreseeable at all.

The local business association has proposed a city-wide initiative, aiming to establish the first pick-up and drop-off zone for mobility-restricted persons in the city centre. This senior-friendly offer is part of a broader vision for a more accessible and inclusive urban environment.

However, this proposal is not viewed in isolation. The assessment of the inner-city developments is not limited to specific types of developments, such as parking garages or renovations, nor is it based on the current decision about the resident parkers in Exterstraße/Krumme Straße.

The mayor, Frank Hilker, has expressed his concerns about a faction in the city council that has recently proposed to consider Exterstraße/Krumme Straße in isolation. He believes this proposal may be a result of election campaigning, serving as a distraction from the Klingemann settlement. The establishment of the Mode- and Sports House Klingemann and the RoofTop Bar at the Hornsches Tor have created a new attraction magnet in Detmold.

The construction of a new parking garage at the Hornsches Tor and a potential parking deck in the Neustadt are potential future developments. However, before these can be coordinated, sufficient replacement parking spaces in the city centre and a parking guidance system must be created.

The jointly established free short-term parking spaces by the local business association will be moved to Exterstraße/Krumme Straße in the next step. The assessment of the inner-city developments is not based on the current status of these parking spaces.

The mayor and the chairman of the local business association anticipate many unforeseeable developments, echoing the concerns of the experts from the Institute for Retail Research Cologne. They emphasise the importance of multifunctional thinking and action in urban development, ensuring that Detmold continues to thrive as a vibrant and dynamic city.

Despite the uncertainties, one thing is clear: the future of Detmold's inner city is a work in progress, with many decisions yet to be made and challenges to be overcome.
