Street Art Exhibition Taking Place in Düsseldorf

The vibrant city of Düsseldorf is set to host the annual Urban Art Festival once again, this time under the iconic Juelicher Bridge. Known for its urbanity and unique charm, the location is a testament to the festival's commitment to showcasing art in unexpected places.

At the helm of this year's event is Klaus Klinger, often referred to as the "Grandfather of Urban Art." Klinger, who helped launch the festival in 2013, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having been involved in the urban art scene since many of his peers were still in diapers.

This year, the festival will feature the works of 70 graffiti and urban art artists from around the globe. Among them are local talents like Kj263, Sven Linnert, Marc from the Majo Brothers, and Tom71, all hailing from Düsseldorf. Artists from England, Greece, Italy, Brazil, and other countries will also be present, contributing to the festival's international flavour.

Each artist brings their unique style and way of working to the table, ensuring a diverse and captivating display of urban art. Klaus Klinger's artwork for the event is particularly noteworthy, focusing on themes of flight, expulsion, and deportation, a poignant reminder of the historical significance of the event location.

The festival will also include workshops on screen printing, sticker, and tape art, open to all without the need for registration on Friday and Saturday. The 40 Grad Urban Art Pop-up-Store will be open from Friday to Sunday, offering prints, sketches, stickers, and more for those looking to take a piece of the festival home.

The Juelicher Bridge is not just a location for art; it holds a significant place in German history. A memorial stands nearby to remember the shameful part of history when Jews were deported from this very spot. The choice of location for the festival underscores its commitment to using art as a means of reflection and remembrance.

The event will also feature live music, with The Balkonien Gang, Djinjo, Fleur Earth, and DJ Irie Jones providing the soundtrack for the festival on Saturday. Food and drinks will be available, making for a complete urban art experience.

As the Urban Art Festival returns to Düsseldorf, it continues to push the boundaries of what urban art can be and where it can be seen. With its diverse lineup of artists and commitment to showcasing art in unexpected places, it promises to be an event not to be missed.
