Stocks in the United States rise, predominantly due to investor confidence in fresh bailout measures
Market Recap: Stimulus Hopes Boost U.S. Stocks and Gold Slides
In a day marked by anticipation for new government stimulus measures, the U.S. stock market experienced a significant boost, while gold prices weakened.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 30,218.26 points, recording an increase of 0.83 percent compared to the previous trading day. The S&P 500 followed suit, rising around 3,695 points (+0.90 percent). These gains were also reflected in the Nasdaq 100, which calculated to approximately 12,510 points (+0.35 percent).
However, the gold market saw a different trend. An ounce of fine gold traded at $1,836.54 at the end of the day, marking a decrease of 0.27 percent. The equivalent of an ounce of gold in euros was €48.71 per gram.
The decrease in U.S. unemployment numbers seems to have encouraged investors to bet on fresh stimulus packages. Major companies likely to benefit from the U.S. stock market growth on Friday include UnitedHealth Group (UNH), Humana (HUM), Merck, Eli Lilly (LY), Amgen, Iron Mountain, and Health Peak Properties. These firms represent value investment opportunities in the healthcare and real estate sectors amid the current market conditions.
In the currency market, one euro was worth 1.2122 US dollars (-0.19 percent) during trading on Friday. Conversely, one dollar was worth 0.8249 euros at the same time.
The price of a barrel of Brent crude increased by 30 cents or 0.62 percent, closing at $49.01 on Friday evening at 10 pm German time.
