Step into Ocelot Bookstore: Prepare for an astonishing experience!
In the heart of the city, with close proximity to Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg, lies Ocelot Bookstore - a gem for book enthusiasts. Established in 2012, this independent bookstore has been a staple in the literary community for nearly a decade.
Ocelot is managed by Cecilia Drain, who joined the team in 2018 for her bookseller training and has been a full-time bookseller since 2021. Taking over the leadership last year, she followed Maria-Christina Piwowarski, who decided to move on.
The bookstore specialises in literary fiction, poetry, and a diverse range of voices, with an impressive multilingual collection. It stocks books published by local indie publishers such as Guggolz Verlag and Verlagshaus Berlin, and features books from smaller publishers that might not be found elsewhere.
One of the unique aspects of Ocelot is its open reading group, which meets every six to eight weeks. Participants discuss two books per meeting, with no requirement to have read both. This welcoming environment encourages lively discussions and the exchange of ideas about literature.
Ocelot's cafe area, with its stylish decor and big windows overlooking the Volkspark am Weinberg, is a perfect spot for quiet reading or engaging in literary conversations. The management expresses satisfaction with the current state of Ocelot and hopes to sustain the age diversity of its audience.
In June, Ocelot will host an English-language event featuring French author Constance DebrΓ©. Beyond this, the management's long-term plans for Ocelot are focused on continued operation and audience diversity.
In addition to its extensive adult collection, Ocelot now also sells children's books in English. Whether you're a seasoned reader or just starting your literary journey, Ocelot Bookstore is a must-visit for book lovers in Berlin.
