The Baldota Group's Sustainable Steel Project in Karnataka
The Baldota Group, an Indian conglomerate with interests in various sectors, has announced its entry into the steel sector with a significant greenfield project in Karnataka, India. The project, which commenced construction in 2023, is expected to be completed by 2025 and upon completion, will be the second largest in Karnataka.
The initial phase of the project will have a production capacity of 3.5 MT, with plans to expand to a total capacity of 10.5 MT by 2030. This expansion is aimed at contributing to India's 300 MT steel production target.
JSW Steel has been appointed as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. The Baldota Group's steel project will prioritize sustainability, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 30% through the use of advanced technology.
In addition, the project will utilize recycled scrap metal to increase raw material efficiency and will feature a state-of-the-art research and development center for continuous innovation. The project will also incorporate a water recycling system to conserve water resources and a raw material handling system to minimize dust and noise pollution.
The Baldota Group has committed an investment of Rs 54,000 crore in the steel sector for this project. The project is expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy.
