Steam's Collective Ticket Event Happens in Meiningen, Germany, on September 6-25, 2025, offering a host of captivating revelations

The Meiningen Steam Locomotive Days, taking place on September 6th and 7th, 2025, promises to be a captivating event for railway enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The event will take place at the historic Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works, serving as the centre of the festivities.

The Steam Locomotive Experience World (DEW) will be the focal point of the event. Located in a building of the former Reich Railway Repair Works Meiningen, in immediate vicinity to the works of the DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH, the DEW offers a wealth of insights into technology and history.

Knut Gärtner, an expert in technology and history, will be present daily at the DEW during the Meiningen Steam Locomotive Days. Former works manager Jürgen Eichhorn will also be on site, ready to answer questions about technology and history.

The DEW offers a three-part locomotive, an accessible cab, and a comprehensive image archive for those seeking a deeper understanding of the subject. The permanent exhibition features interactive stations on over 600 square meters, making the functioning of the steam locomotive tangible.

The special exhibition "Fire - Water - Coal. The three prime elements tamed" has been on display since August 9, 2025, and will be a highlight of the event. The Meiningen Philatelic Society and the Steam Locomotive Experience World have collaborated to present a 300 square meter exhibition.

For the younger visitors, Lina and the dragon Loki will be available to explore the world of steam locomotives and railways in a playful way. The Meiningen Model Railway Club will also be present with a model railway layout during the Steam Locomotive Days.

A combination ticket grants access to both the historic works site and the Steam Locomotive Experience World (DEW). Public guided tours of the works and the DEW are included in the admission price. Numerous highlights throughout the site will be presented during the event.

The Meiningen site is the last large, comprehensive works for the overhaul, repair, and new construction of steam locomotives in Western Europe. The event will also present a fashion show featuring historical uniforms, offering insights into railway history.
