StanChart marathon preliminary race victors: Mwangi and Ndida
The 22nd edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is set to take place on October 26, 2025, at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi. Over 60 elite athletes have been confirmed across different categories, including Kenyans Lazarus Too and Donald Sambu, Ugandan Stephen Mugabe, and Cecilia Alonyo among others.
The marathon serves not only as a platform for athletic competition but also for community empowerment initiatives such as Future-makers. The event brought together over 1500 participants over the weekend at Parklands Sports Club, Nairobi.
The warm-up event was competitive, with Peter Mwangi clinching the men's race in 65 minutes, while Fridah Ndida triumphed in the women's category with a time of 77 minutes. Mwangi expressed his confidence in his readiness for the main race, stating that winning the warm-up event has given him confidence.
David Mwindi, the Local Organising Committee Chairperson, stated that the marathon's growing popularity shows its significance beyond a sporting event. He noted that the statement indicates a growing energy around this year's marathon.
As of now, more than 18,000 runners have registered ahead of the October 10 deadline, and the main event is expected to attract over 30,000 participants. Lazarus Too, the Orange Phikwe National Marathon champion, and Donald Sambu, winner of the 2021 MTN Kampala Marathon, are also participating.
Ugandan Stephen Mugabe, who has competed in international events like the TCS New York Marathon, is also among the competitors. Cecilia Alonyo, another athlete competing in the marathon, adds to the list of Kenyan and international participants.
The 22nd Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon includes 42km, 21km half marathon, 10km race, and 21km wheelchair race. The event promises to be an exciting spectacle of athletic prowess and community spirit.
