Gridlock of 25-kilometer length on the Austrian border due to a significant truck pileup - Staggering length of truck congestion along the Austrian frontier

The Austrian authorities implemented a "block release" system at 5:00 am on Tuesday, allowing a maximum of 300 lorries to enter the country per hour. This measure was taken to manage the build-up of lorry traffic at the Austrian border near Kufstein, where a 25-kilometer queue had formed.

According to the Rosenheim traffic police, the traffic is currently easing, with the lorry traffic that was queued up on the German side between Kiefersfelden and the Inntal triangle also showing signs of improvement. By 8:00 am, the tailback on the A93 had reached its peak, all the way to the motorway junction.

The block release system was ended at 9:30 am, marking a significant step towards normalising traffic flow at the Brenner Pass. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) is likely to be responsible for regulating truck traffic at the Brenner Pass in 2025. Local authorities in Tirol, such as the Tyrolean government, may also play a role in implementing specific regulations like the block traffic management.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further developments regarding traffic at the Brenner Pass.
