Stadium's Brilliant Illumination Surges with Premier League's Resurgence

New 5G Network Transforms Stadium of Light and British Esports Arena

The Stadium of Light in Sunderland is set for a significant upgrade, as a decade-old network is replaced with a cutting-edge 5G network. This new system, managed by London-based Boldyn Networks, marks the UK's first full neutral host RAN managed service in a high-density venue.

The new 5G network, part of the Sunderland Open Network EcosysTem (SONET) project, will bring numerous benefits to both the Stadium of Light and the British Esports Arena. These benefits include seamless video uploads, in-seat food ordering, and improved live sport experiences.

Boldyn Networks' launch of Cloud and Edge as a Service (CaaS) at the Stadium of Light is a testament to their dedication to advancing digital connectivity and setting new industry standards. The company, which provided the 5G infrastructure including the CaaS platform, has been involved in the deployment of the new 5G network.

Sunderland's vision for innovation and growth is reflected in this digital transformation. The new 5G network rollout is one of several high-profile projects under the SONET initiative, contributing to a smarter, more connected environment for the community.

David Bruce, chief business officer of Sunderland AFC, expressed his excitement about the enhanced 5G network. He stated that it will unlock opportunities for enhanced matchday experiences, faster connectivity, richer content, and more immersive engagement. The upgraded network is the UK's first full neutral host RAN managed service in a high-density venue and is expected to benefit O2 customers with faster speeds and improved live sport experiences.

Visitors to the Stadium of Light can anticipate high-quality connections, personalized services, and enhanced safety. Brendan O'Reilly, CEO of UK & Ireland at Boldyn Networks, stated that the project demonstrates their commitment to delivering innovative connectivity solutions.

It's worth noting that the SONET project is not directly related to the fashion house, Castore, or the owner of Manchester United, Ratcliffe, despite recent investments in the fashion industry by Ratcliffe.

The enhanced 5G network at the Stadium of Light is a significant step forward in the venue's continued period of investment, reflecting Sunderland AFC's commitment to putting fans at the heart of everything they do. The new network supports features such as seamless video uploads and in-seat food ordering, promising a transformative experience for all who visit the Stadium of Light.
