Martha Stewart Shares Summer Table Decor Tips

Martha Stewart, the beloved lifestyle expert, has shared her summer table decor ideas on her Instagram page, Martha Moments. In a recent video, she was joined by Aneta to discuss vibrant and practical table settings for the season.

One of Martha's standout ideas involves bright green table settings and dishes, paired with classic white dinnerware and silver cutlery. This colour scheme, she explains, creates a fresh and invigorating atmosphere perfect for summer meals. To neutralize the table setting, she suggests using slightly monochromatic green dinner plates and white Fiestaware, an inexpensive clay pottery popular in the '30s, '40s, and '50s with an Art Deco design.

Martha emphasizes the importance of mixing old and new, fancy and plain items for table settings. She covers her table with oilcloth, a lightweight, waterproof, and colorful fabric made of plastic or vinyl woven with cotton. This versatile material adds a playful touch to the table, while being easy to clean and maintain.

For glasses, Martha mixes and matches different ones, using heavy, pressed glasses alongside thinner ones. She finds linen napkins at garage sales for various colour stripes, using them as "lapkins" that are large enough to fit across her lap. Linen napkins, she believes, are a true essential for any table setting.

To add a pop of colour to any meal, Martha recommends using a fun and practical jadeite glass bowl, which is still available for purchase. This bowl, with its timeless design, complements the bright green table setting beautifully.

A tonal yet eye-catching placemat set, featuring the Painterly Stripe design from Lulu and Georgia's Sarah Sherman Samuel collaboration, is also available for purchase. This set, Martha explains, adds a touch of sophistication to the table setting, while still being in keeping with the overall bright and playful theme.

Lastly, Martha suggests using a cheap and cheerful tablecloth as a base for the table colour foundation. This allows for the brighter elements of the table setting to truly shine.

In essence, Martha Stewart's summer table decor tips encourage mixing bright colours with table staples, using a variety of items from oilcloth to Fiestaware, and creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for meals with family and friends.
