Spouse's family mercilessly assaults and burns woman due to dowry demands in Greater Noida.

In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the community in Greater Noida, India, a woman named Nikki lost her life due to injuries sustained from being beaten up and set on fire by her in-laws.

According to reports, Nikki was married into a family in Greater Noida's Sirsa in 2016, but her mother stated that she had been married for seven years. Six months after the marriage, Nikki's sister, Kanchan, alleged that the in-laws started torturing Nikki over dowry demands.

The assaults on Nikki and Kanchan were allegedly due to demands for dowry, with the in-laws reportedly asking for a sum of ₹36 lakh from Nikki's family. Kanchan stated that Nikki was beaten up by her in-laws on Thursday night and set on fire in front of her son.

The victim's mother, in her grief, expressed a demand for a death sentence for the accused. Tragically, Nikki died on the way to Safdarjung Hospital. A post-mortem was conducted on the woman, and her family members cremated her thereafter.

Following Kanchan's complaint, a case has been registered at the Kasana police station against Nikki's husband and his family. The police took the husband, Vipin, into custody. Teams have been formed to arrest others involved, including a man named Pintu among others, in connection with Nikki's death.

The incident remains a dowry death, a regrettable reminder of the persisting issue in Indian society. The police are investigating the matter further and have requested anyone with information to come forward.

Our hearts go out to Nikki's family and friends during this difficult time. May justice be served, and such incidents be a thing of the past.
