In several districts of Berlin, a shortage of school places continues to be a pressing issue for the upcoming school year.

In Marzahn-Hellersdorf and Lichtenberg, both primary and secondary schools are fully occupied, with no free places available. Lichtenberg, in particular, has been grappling with a shortage of school places in the primary school area and support centers for years, and demand continues to rise.

Despite extensive inquiries, the district offices of Treptow-Köpenick and Reinickendorf have yet to respond regarding school places for the upcoming school year. In Steglitz-Zehlendorf, there are free capacities in the 1st grade at some schools, but from the 5th grade onwards, there are no free places in the classics area, and at the grammar school, there are currently a few free places.

A spokesperson for the district office has stated that the figures on school places are changing daily due to ongoing registrations and changes in various districts. Publishing outdated or obsolete numbers could lead to legal issues.

In Tempelhof-Schöneberg, ongoing legal protection and appeals procedures, especially in the upper school area, and necessary inter-district school place allocation have made it impossible to make a valid statement at this time. The intake capacity at upper and primary schools has been largely exhausted.
