Spotlight on the Debut of the Country's First Self-Contained CrossMod Housing Unit at the Innovative Housing Exhibition
The Innovative Housing Showcase, organised by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is currently taking place on a small section of the National Mall in Washington D.C. for a week in September. This year's theme, "The American Home is the American Dream", focuses on expanding opportunities for homeownership.
One of the main attractions at the showcase is the nation's first single-section, crossover modern or "CrossMod" manufactured home, displayed by American homebuilder Clayton. The CrossMod home was built off-site in a climate-controlled environment and is aimed at addressing the housing shortage and supply constraints.
Clayton's Business Development Manager, Andrew Bryant, stated that the CrossMod home build is one of their efforts to make homeownership more accessible for more Americans. The construction of a single-section CrossMod home takes less than a third of the development time compared to a traditional single-family home, with around eight being built every 60 days.
The average cost of a CrossMod home, including land, is approximately $200,000. CrossMod homes can be placed in various markets, including rural, urban, and suburban areas.
The CrossMod home by Clayton was transported and placed just feet away from the Washington Monument, drawing the attention of many visitors.
The Innovative Housing Showcase is open for visitors until September 10th. The event is free and open to the public, providing an excellent opportunity for people to learn about the latest innovations in housing and the steps being taken to make homeownership more accessible for all Americans.
