"Sports facility, titled 'Sportspark at the Bunker', officially launched in Rath area"
The Sports Park at the Bunker, a new addition to the city's recreational facilities, officially opened its doors on the first day of September. The park, which is part of the "Social City Rath/Mörsenbroich" project, offers a variety of sports, movement, and leisure facilities for all generations.
On the opening day, a host of activities were available for visitors. Parkour, Boule, Panna-KO, and AGON 08 were introduced by experienced trainers at the S-Bahn entrance in Rath Mitte, while the Sports Park at the Bunker itself was tested under guidance for various age groups.
The renovation of the Sports Park at the Bunker cost approximately 612,000 euros, with 60% of the costs covered by the federal and state governments through urban development promotion funds. The remaining amount was covered by the state capital of Düsseldorf.
The development of the Sports Park at the Bunker took about six months and was realized by the Parks Department. The newly created city square invites visitors to train, take a walk, or watch the sporting activities.
Helga Stulgies, Environment Commissioner in the Düsseldorf city administration, expressed her delight, stating, "The Sports Park at the Bunker offers a unique opportunity for children, young people, and adults to engage in sports and recreational activities in a welcoming and inclusive environment."
Cornelia Zuschke, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Building, Mobility, and Real Estate in Düsseldorf, added, "We are thrilled to have created a space where children, young people, and adults can contribute their wishes and suggestions to the planning and development of the Sports Park at the Bunker. We believe this approach ensures that the park meets the needs and interests of our diverse community."
Starting from Saturday, September 7, the Sports Department will offer free Parkour workshops for anyone aged 12 and up. Participation in the workshops is not required to register. The Sports Park at the Bunker also boasts seating options and lawn areas for resting and lingering.
Children and young people from the neighboring youth recreation facility Ekkehardstraße and schools in the district celebrated the opening of the Sports Park at the Bunker. They look forward to spending their free time at the park, enjoying the various sports and leisure facilities it offers.
The Sports Park at the Bunker is more than just a sports field; it's a place where people of all ages can come together, engage in physical activities, and build a sense of community. It's a testament to Düsseldorf's commitment to creating inclusive and engaging spaces for its residents.
