Spending Three Days in Osnabrück's Capital City

In the heart of Lower Saxony, the city of Osnabrück recently hosted the 38th Tag der Niedersachsen, a festival that served as an invitation for visitors to return and experience the city's vibrant spirit. This year's event, held on 31.08.2025, was organised by Marketing Osnabrück GmbH on behalf of the city.

The festival was a celebration of music, encounters, culture, and volunteer spirit, leaving a warm, engaging, and unifying impression on its guests. Mayor Katharina Pötter expressed her gratitude for the event, stating that it presented Osnabrück as a city of peace, a city of science, and a livable place in the green.

The programme was diverse, featuring ten thematic miles, a youth mile, sports mile, and a parade of diversity. Over 250 young talents participated in the youth mile, setting creative impulses, while the sports mile had over 2,500 active participants. The festival was characterised by a cheerful, open, and inclusive atmosphere, which Pötter referred to as the "Osnabrück spirit."

Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens praised the organisation, the peaceful atmosphere, the great commitment of volunteers, and the unifying power of the state festival. She captured the essence of the festival as a "festival of encounters" that brought together people from various parts of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, the Netherlands, and beyond.

CEO Alexander Illenseer expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organisation of the festival. He noted that the event attracted an estimated 500,000 visitors from various regions. The police and rescue services reported a peaceful festival, with around 1,500 participants marching through the streets during the parade of diversity.

To ensure everyone felt comfortable, amenities such as a coordinated security and traffic concept, awareness teams, gender-neutral toilets, and a retreat room at the cathedral were provided. There were over 70 hours of stage program, open-air church services, and various opportunities for personal conversations.

The festival was deemed a strong statement of a living community. Pötter, in her closing remarks, expressed her hope that many will return to Osnabrück in the future. The Interior Minister Daniela Behrens explicitly stated that the festival couldn't have been done better.

In conclusion, the 38th Tag der Niedersachsen in Osnabrück was a resounding success, embodying the city's spirit of unity, culture, and inclusivity. The festival not only celebrated the city's rich history and vibrant culture but also served as a platform for encounters, creativity, and active participation.
