Speaker Introduction at IBC2025: Antonia Kerle
At this year's IBC2025 conference, Evan Shapiro will deliver a keynote speech titled "The New Normal", focusing on global media shifts. Shapiro, known for his expertise, will discuss the critical role publishers play in supporting the integrity of the information ecosystem.
The conference, with a European focus on emerging trends and new developments in the media and tech industry, also includes a panel discussion titled "Fighting disinformation and disengagement: staying relevant in the digital age". Antonia Kerle will participate in this discussion, scheduled for September 13th at 2.15pm.
However, Shapiro will not share recent innovations from BBC R&D that help journalists and audiences discern truth from fiction during his session. Instead, he will discuss trends in mis/disinformation that could impact the industry in the future.
Shapiro emphasises the need for a multi-disciplinary systems approach to address the problem of trust and mis/disinformation. He hopes the audience will understand that this issue cannot be solved by third-party platforms alone, and that investment and engagement from actors across the media and tech industry, civil society, and government are necessary.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has recently announced its stance on tech sovereignty and public service media (PSM). Shapiro is interested in understanding how other attendees at IBC are thinking about these topics, given the EBU's recent announcements.
Despite not discussing specific key technologies defining the industry at the moment, Shapiro monitors trends and emerging technologies closely. His session promises to be an insightful exploration of the evolving media landscape and the role of publishers in maintaining its integrity.
In a separate panel discussion, Antonia Kerle will join other experts to discuss strategies for fighting disinformation and disengagement in the digital age. Unfortunately, details about the other participants in this discussion are not currently available.
IBC2025 promises to be an exciting event for those interested in the future of media and technology, with a focus on addressing pressing issues such as trust and mis/disinformation, and exploring innovative solutions to strengthen the information ecosystem.
