German Armed Forces Swear Oath in North Rhine-Westphalia's State Parliament

In a significant display of unity and commitment, approximately 420 recruits of the German Armed Forces took their oath in front of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament. The ceremony, held on a day marked by the redefinition of war and peace in Europe by Russia, was a testament to the parliamentary army's dedication to upholding the values of freedom and security.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst, Brigadegeneral Hans-Dieter Müller, members of the Luftwaffenmusikkorps Münster, and family members and guests of the recruits. The State Parliament President, André Kuper, emphasised the importance of the location, stating that the German Armed Forces are deeply rooted in German society.

In his address, Kuper thanked the recruits for their willingness to serve the country and defend its values. He underscored the symbolic significance of the oath being taken not behind a barracks wall, but in the central place of democracy in North Rhine-Westphalia—the house of the people's representatives.

Hendrik Wüst and Herbert Reul, both CDU members, also addressed the recruits, expressing their support and appreciation for their commitment. Kuper, too, reiterated the State Parliament's stance, standing with those who defend freedom and security.

The decision to celebrate this event in front of the State Parliament was made in 2022, marking a significant shift in the way the ceremony is conducted. The oath-taking ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the German Armed Forces' role in preserving peace and democracy in Europe.
