In the upcoming local election in Bergisch Gladbach, Sarah Shakil has thrown her hat into the ring, vying for a seat on both the city council and the integration council.

Born and raised in Bergisch Gladbach since the age of seven, Sarah Shakil hails from a low-income family. Her personal experiences and values have shaped her commitment to social inclusion and justice.

Shakil's political journey began during the federal election, when she became disillusioned with the political landscape. Seeking a more inclusive and equitable approach, she joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in February 2021.

As a candidate, Shakil values social policy, equal educational opportunities, and affordable housing. Her core issue is social justice, focusing on children, youth, seniors, and single parents.

The vacancy for the Moitzfeld seat on the city council has provided Shakil with an opportunity to make a difference. With the previous candidate opting out of the election, Shakil has stepped up to fill the gap.

Shakil's work as an economic lawyer and her involvement with Bono-Direct Aid further demonstrate her dedication to creating a more equitable society. She finds meetings with the party, working groups, and the Jusos to be respectful and enjoyable.

In an effort to engage with the youth, Shakil is keen on interacting with them in youth centers. Her personal goal is to convince young people to vote and to show them that politics is not boring.

Shakil wishes for equal opportunities for all people in Bergisch Gladbach, regardless of origin, gender, or status. In line with her beliefs, she hopes for an SPD mayor in the future local election.

To aid voters in making informed decisions, an AI chatbot has been developed for the local election in Bergisch Gladbach to answer questions about the parties' programs.

With her candidacy, Sarah Shakil brings a fresh perspective and a strong commitment to social justice to the table. As the election approaches, it will be interesting to see how her campaign unfolds.
