New Leadership in Spain's Textile Industry: Alejandro Laquidain Takes Over CIE Presidency and Manuel Díaz de Marcos to Lead Texfor

After a period of transition, the Spanish Textile Interindustry Council (CIE) has renewed its presidency. Alejandro Laquidain, the top executive of Texfor, has been elected as the new president of the CIE, effective immediately.

With this change, the CIE now has a president and secretary-general with exclusive dedication. Salvador Maluquer, previously the secretary-general of Texfor, has been appointed as the secretary-general of the CIE.

Alejandro Laquidain's tenure as CIE president comes after the extended term of Ángel Asensio, whose term ended in July 2011 but was extended until February 15. However, Asensio is not running for re-election, opening the door for new leadership.

Meanwhile, Texfor, which represents the industry and caters to over 10,000 textile and apparel companies, is undergoing its own leadership changes. Manuel Díaz de Marcos is set to succeed Alejandro Laquidain as the head of Texfor, while Andrés Borao will take over Salvador Maluquer's position.

The combined companies employ around 150,000 people and have an average turnover of approximately 11 billion euros. However, Texfor is not inclined to consider large distribution groups as part of the sector, making the goal of uniting the entire sector under a single trade association in Spain further distant.

As the new leaders take office, they face the challenge of navigating this complex industry landscape and finding ways to foster growth and collaboration within the textile and apparel sector in Spain.
