Sova Dating redefines love by prioritizing emotional intelligence over swipes
A new dating app is taking a different approach by putting emotional health first. Sova Dating, launched in 2025, uses therapy-based tools to help users build better connections. The app’s unique method has already drawn attention, partly thanks to a boost from comedian Taylor Tomlinson.
Unlike typical dating platforms, Sova focuses on emotional readiness before users even upload a photo. Founded by a licensed therapist, the app aims to change how people meet by blending neuroscience with matchmaking.
The idea for Sova Dating came from Kieri Olmstead, a marriage and family therapist. After hearing clients complain about shallow interactions on other apps, she decided to create something more meaningful. With no coding experience, she used AI tools like ChatGPT to build the first version.
The app stands out with its 50-question intake quiz, designed around therapeutic frameworks. Users are categorized as green, yellow, or red flags based on their answers. Those flagged as red are directed to therapists before they can reattempt the quiz. Profiles are built around intentional questions about identity and preferences, with photos coming last. A small team of three runs the operation, including Ashley Senciboy as COO, overseeing daily functions and coordinating with marketing and tech leads. Funding so far totals $47,000, raised through angel investors and crowdfunding. The app’s test phase began in September 2025, with a full launch on iOS and Android the following month. Sova Dating isn’t stopping at digital connections. In Kansas City, Olmstead and neuroscientist Cody Isabel are hosting a 12-month workshop series. The goal is to create a model for therapist-led dating events that could expand to other cities. Early interest grew after Tomlinson promoted the app on her social media, helping it gain momentum.
Sova Dating offers an alternative for those frustrated with traditional dating apps. Its mix of therapy, neuroscience, and real-world workshops sets it apart in a crowded market. The app’s future depends on whether its focus on emotional intelligence can attract a lasting user base.
