South Korean auto giant adds numerous electric Kia models to its expanding electric vehicle portfolio

Kia has made a significant stride in its electric vehicle (EV) journey, unveiling a range of new models at its "2025 Kia EV Day" event in Tarragona, Spain. The line-up now includes the Concept EV2, Kia EV4 in both saloon and hatchback versions, Kia EV3, EV6, and EV9.

A Premium Mass Market Offering: The Kia EV4

The Kia EV4, a premium mass market C-segment car, caters to both European and Asian markets. It comes in two body styles - a five-door hatchback and a four-door saloon. The EV4 is designed to suit a wide range of users, from fleet buyers to families, taxi cabs, and car shares.

One of the standout features of the EV4 is its onboard support for streaming services like Netflix. Key functions can also be relegated to your Apple Watch, offering a seamless and convenient driving experience. The EV4 is equipped with a standard 58.3kWh or an optional 81.4kWh long-range battery, promising impressive range projections of 430km and 630km respectively for the saloon, helped by an impressively slippery 0.23Cd drag coefficient.

Power and Flexibility: The EV4's Charging and Power Delivery Systems

The EV4's 400V charge system is another highlight, capable of getting the vehicle from 10-80% in just over half an hour. The EV4 also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing it to supply power to external devices, and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) mode, which can act as a backup battery.

The PV5: A Versatile Van for Various Tasks

Alongside the EV4, Kia also debuted the PV5 van. This versatile vehicle comes in various configurations, including cargo, crew, wheelchair access, and consumer versions. The PV5 is part of Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy, aiming to offer solutions beyond traditional vehicles.

A Glimpse into the Future: EV1, EV7, and EV8

Kia also hinted at the development of a city-friendly EV1, EV7, and EV8, suggesting potential future expansion of its electric vehicle line-up.

Partnerships for Enhanced In-Car Services

Kia is teaming up with Samsung for in-car services for the PBV range, aiming to provide a seamless and enhanced user experience. The Concept EV2, a lightly disguised version of a small B-Segment SUV set to enter production, will also benefit from this partnership.

A Commitment to Sustainable Mobility

Kia President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, reiterated the company's commitment to democratizing EV ownership, making sustainable mobility solutions open to everyone. With its expanded electric vehicle line-up, Kia is certainly moving in that direction.

The AddGear system, previewed by the PV5 WKNDR and EV9 ADVNTR concepts, allows for the addition of custom accessories for a wide variety of commercial and consumer tasks, further demonstrating Kia's commitment to versatility and adaptability in its electric vehicle offerings.

The PV5 Passenger, a variant of the PV5, can be seen as a direct competitor to VW's ID.Buzz, indicating Kia's ambition to compete in the premium van segment. The debut of the PV5 and EV4 marks an exciting step forward for Kia in its electric vehicle journey.
