Solarpro and LONGi collaborate on Europe's largest back-contact solar plant

A massive 450-megawatt solar power plant is set to become Hungary’s largest. Solarpro, a renewable energy developer, is leading the project with nearly 700,000 ultra-efficient solar modules supplied by LONGi. The plant will generate enough clean energy to power over 100,000 homes each year.

The new facility will use LONGi’s Hi-MO9 solar modules, which feature advanced back contact (BC) technology. This innovation cuts micro-cracking in the glass by half and boosts electricity generation by up to 8%. Once operational, the plant will produce around 470 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually.

Krasen Mateev, CEO of Solarpro, highlighted the partnership’s importance, stating they were proud to work with LONGi again on such a significant project. Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe, echoed this sentiment, calling it an honour to supply modules for the landmark development.

The plant’s clean energy output is expected to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 415,000 tons every year. Solarpro specialises in hybrid renewable projects, combining solar, wind, battery storage, and hydrogen solutions.

The 450 MW plant will stand as Hungary’s largest solar installation upon completion. Its annual energy production will meet the needs of roughly 106,000 households. The project marks another step in the country’s shift toward cleaner, more sustainable power sources.
