TikTok is making strides to support songwriters on its platform, introducing a host of new features aimed at raising their profile and building their audience.

In a commitment to the music community, TikTok's Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership has stated that the company is building tools to celebrate and elevate songwriters and their work on the platform. These tools are currently in beta testing, available to a limited group of invited songwriters and creators.

One of the key features is a "Songwriter" designation and a dedicated profile tab to showcase compositions. This allows songwriters to highlight their musical works alongside their own content, providing a platform for them to tell stories about their music, their craft, and their lives.

Hundreds of thousands of artist creators already use TikTok in this manner, and the company has conducted extensive research to ascertain the specific requirements of songwriters regarding social media for profile development and the identification of monetization avenues. An independent survey indicated that over 50% of songwriters who utilize social media for profile elevation specifically use TikTok for this purpose.

TikTok's focus on songwriters comes as it retains its significance for users seeking new music discoveries and for artists promoting their tracks. Despite discontinuing its music streaming service, TikTok Music, last year, the platform remains a powerful tool for artists.

This focus on songwriters is not unique to TikTok. Spotify has provided features for songwriters to highlight their work for several years, while Tidal introduced a tool last year enabling songwriters to track royalties and manage works for which they hold songwriting credits.

The new TikTok features for songwriters aim to enhance their visibility to prospective collaborators, as well as providing artists with capabilities to monitor the performance of their campaigns and tracks through the "TikTok for Artists" tool, which was released earlier this year.

Interested songwriters and publishers can join a waitlist to participate in this program. As the features continue to develop and roll out, it's clear that TikTok is committed to supporting and promoting the work of songwriters on its platform.
