Snuneymuxw First Nation purchases the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam

The Snuneymuxw First Nation has agreed to buy Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam. This marks their fifth casino purchase in British Columbia this year. The deal aims to boost the nation’s financial independence and economic control.

The casino in Coquitlam features 917 slot machines, 37 table games, and 42 electronic table games. Its current owner, Great Canadian Casino Vancouver, has now reached an agreement with the Snuneymuxw First Nation. The transaction still requires regulatory approvals, including those under the Competition Act.

The Snuneymuxw First Nation is one of the largest in B.C., with around 2,000 members. Their latest acquisition builds on a series of recent casino purchases across the province. Leaders have described the move as a key part of their push for greater economic self-determination.

Once finalised, the deal will transfer ownership of the Coquitlam casino to the Snuneymuxw First Nation. The purchase follows four other casino acquisitions in the region this year. Regulatory and third-party approvals remain the final steps before completion.
