Smoke alarms in households prove life-saving once more!
In the heart of Hattingen, a false alarm set off a rapid response from the local Fire Department late yesterday evening. The incident, reported by the Fire Department Hattingen and transmitted via news aktuell, occurred at 23:53 in the residential area of Welper.
Upon receiving the call, multiple units from the Fire Department Hattingen were dispatched to the scene. These included professional firefighters, the Northern Deployment Unit, and protective clothing reinforcement units from Mitte, Oberbredenscheid, and Niederwenigern.
Upon arrival, the firefighters found the apartment filled with smoke. Using special tools, they gained entry and found a person lying on the floor inside. The individual was swiftly rescued and handed over to the paramedics.
Despite the initial alarm, it was soon discovered that the cause of the smoke was not a fire but food left burning on the stove. Neither smoke nor a smell of fire was detected in the stairwell. This false alarm, however, proved to be a life-saving event due to the triggered smoke alarm.
The building showed no visible signs of damage from the outside, and the operation to handle the false alarm was completed after approximately 30 minutes. The unit of the Hattingen fire command involved in the rescue operation has not been explicitly identified in the available sources.
