Smartphone Technology Secures $1 Million Funding for Transforming Phones into Advanced Movement Analysis Devices on Par with Lab Equipment

Model Health, a cutting-edge Belgian-American startup, has successfully secured €800,000 ($1 million) in pre-seed funding. This funding round was led by Apex Capital, a sports-focused investment firm, with participation from Syndicate One, LeanSquare, imec.istart, and several angel investors.

Founded in 2024, Model Health's groundbreaking technology is transforming the way sports clinics and rehab centers in the U.S. and Europe analyse movement. By utilising AI and biomechanics, Model Health's technology turns any smartphone into a lab-grade movement analysis tool.

Koen Bosma, partner at Apex Capital, has stated that Model Health's technology has the potential to become the global standard for movement analysis in professional settings. The Pro plan for Model Health's service costs $199 per month and includes 25 sessions, while the Starter plan is priced at $129 per month, offering lab-grade motion capture, automated analysis modules, and 10 sessions. For larger organizations, a custom-priced Pro Plus plan is available, offering 50 to unlimited sessions, multi-user access, and API integrations.

The system generated by Model Health's technology produces 3D models, time-series data like joint angles, center-of-mass trajectories, and angular velocities, and translates those numbers into metrics tied to injury risk and performance. Notable users of Model Health's technology include a dozen sports clinics and rehab centers, as well as global sports brand Decathlon through its SportsLab R&D center.

In addition to product development and expanding adoption in sports clinics and organizations, the startup plans to use the raised funds for hiring three foundational staff members. It's worth noting that an unnamed international European football player participated in the financing of Model Health, but their identity remains undisclosed in the available search results.

Other companies, such as Maxiom and DNAthlete, are also experimenting with genetics and AI to personalise training and recovery for elite athletes. The funding raised by Model Health reflects a shift in fitness and wellness where data and analysis are becoming as essential as gym equipment.

Fit:match, another innovative company, recently deployed its Reflect 3D body scanning system at the Penn Relays to study correlations between body composition, performance, and injury risk. This development underscores the growing importance of data-driven approaches in the fitness and wellness industry.

The founders of Model Health include Antoine Falisse, Scott Uhlrich, and Nicolas Bellemans. With this successful funding round, Model Health is poised to revolutionise the way movement analysis is conducted in professional settings, setting a new standard for sports clinics, rehab centres, and elite athletes worldwide.
