Small businesses in Kentucky flourishing, reveals latest report, thanks to Amazon support

The 2024 Small Business Empowerment Report, now available for more information here, showcases the success of small businesses on Amazon's online marketplace.

Small businesses in Kentucky, on average, earn more than $180,000 in annual sales through Amazon, with nationally, small businesses generating over $2.5 trillion in sales over the past 25 years on the marketplace. This growth has been instrumental in scaling small businesses' operations, particularly since the launch of Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) in 2006.

FBA has enabled same-day or next-day delivery for many items, delighting customers and accelerating sales growth for small businesses. This service has been a game-changer for independent sellers, allowing them to focus on product development while offering fast, reliable shipping.

Over 2.5 billion items have been exported globally by small businesses on Amazon since 2000, with 2024 seeing over 20 million items moved by small businesses on the marketplace. Small businesses in rural areas and small towns across America have also experienced a 30% year-over-year increase in sales.

The success of small businesses on Amazon's marketplace has contributed to a larger transformation in retail. The report highlights that independent sellers now account for over 60% of Amazon's total sales. One such example is Heirloom Traditions Paint, a small business in Taylorsville, founded by Paula Blankenship in 2013.

Kentucky businesses, in particular, have demonstrated strength in using Amazon's infrastructure to reach customers beyond their local markets. The report showcases the impact of Amazon's infrastructure on the growth and reach of small businesses.

Amazon's online marketplace has been a significant factor in this success. The company's largest hub worldwide, located at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, is the 800,000 square foot Amazon Air Hub in Hebron.

While there are no publicly available search results indicating which small businesses in Kentucky sold more than 20 million items through Amazon's online marketplace in 2024, the report underscores the potential for small businesses to thrive on the platform.
