Sling TV Cost Increases Now as Well
Sling TV, a popular live streaming service, has announced a series of changes to its pricing and DVR storage options, primarily affecting new subscribers.
Starting from now, both the Sling Orange and Sling Blue packages will cost new users $35 per month, an increase from the previous price. The "Total TV Deal" package, which bundles both Orange and Blue, will now be priced at $27 per month for new subscribers, an increase of $1.
In addition, the sports extra add-on will cost incoming users $11, an increase from the previous price. However, for those who bundle both Orange and Blue, the sports extra add-on will remain at $15. Other add-ons, such as comedy, news, and lifestyle, will see a price increase of $1, now costing $6 per month.
Sling TV group president, Michael Schwimmer, has stated that these price increases are necessary due to higher costs from television networks. He also emphasised that Sling TV continues to offer the best deal in the market, with prices lower than cable and other live streaming services.
One of the key enhancements for new users is the increase in DVR storage. All Sling TV customers will now receive 50 hours of free DVR storage, an increase from the previous 10 hours. For those who subscribe to DVR Plus, the storage will be quadrupled, offering 200 hours of DVR storage. However, it's important to note that the free DVR storage increase does not apply to existing DVR Plus subscribers.
The price hike does not affect the cost of the sports extra add-on for those who bundle both Orange and Blue. Existing customers will not be charged the new prices until July of this year.
In a similar move, major streamers like Netflix, Disney, and Hulu have announced price increases over the past year. Notably, Netflix has announced a price increase in Germany, effective from late 2023 and into 2025. The cheaper basic plan will be removed for new customers, and new plans will start at €4.99 for a standard subscription with ads, €13.99 for ad-free, and €19.99 for premium quality.
Despite these changes, Sling TV remains committed to providing an affordable and high-quality live streaming experience for its customers.
