Sixteen individuals embark on their new professions within the 'QiK' initiative

The QiK project, a successful initiative aimed at facilitating career changes in childcare and attracting new professionals, is set to expand in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, following its successful implementation in Mönchengladbach last year.

The project, which is part of the model community, is valued for the diverse professional and life experiences of its participants. In Mönchengladbach, the city, in collaboration with other kindergarten providers, the employment agency, and AWO Mönchengladbach, has shaped the QiK project locally. The project duration is three years, with the first cohort of 17 participants having completed their training with consistently positive experiences.

The QiK project is a program of the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Flight and Integration (MKJFGFI) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It allows career changers to enter childcare and actively contribute to its success. Participants have previously worked for the city of Mönchengladbach in various functions, such as daily helpers.

During the first two years, participants work in kindergarten facilities, gaining practical experience. This hands-on approach is crucial in the development of children's nurses, who need to listen to, accompany, and support children. In the third year, participants transition into the final year of training to become a children's nurse. Upon completion, they receive a qualification as a state-recognized children's nurse.

The Mönchengladbach AWO brings its experiences from the QiK project to the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, ensuring a smooth implementation of the program in the new location. Mönchengladbach remains the only city where the QiK program is currently running.

The work in childcare is considered one of the most beautiful but challenging tasks. The QiK project's goal is to ensure the quality and stability of early childhood education by attracting dedicated professionals like those who have participated in the Mönchengladbach QiK project. With the expansion to the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, more children will benefit from the expertise and passion of QiK participants.
