Singapore's Little Hands, Big Joy Brings Festive Cheer to Students with Disabilities

A festive Christmas event brought together 29 students with intellectual disabilities for a day of creativity and celebration. The Lions Club of Singapore Lotusia teamed up with MINDS Raintree Special Student Care Centre (SSCC) to host Little Hands, Big Joy on 5 December. The occasion highlighted inclusion and the joy of handmade crafts during the holiday season. The Lions Club of Singapore Lotusia was established in 2023 as part of Lions Club International. Since its founding, the group has focused on supporting underserved communities through local initiatives. This December marked its first recorded collaboration with another social institution in Singapore.

The Little Hands, Big Joy event welcomed students from MINDS Raintree SSCC, a programme offering before-and-after school care for children attending Special Education Schools. During the celebration, the students crafted DIY Christmas socks, which now form part of Fernvale Community Club's 2025 Christmas display. The showcase, running from 11 to 30 December, lets the children and their families admire the handmade decorations throughout the festive period.

The event included activity stations, a shared lunch, and festive games, fostering interaction between volunteers and students. Jacob Tao, President of the Lions Club and CO-CEO of Lotusia Group, noted that Christmas should be a time for children to create and share with loved ones. Sponsors like Jack Lei, Yu Haixin, Jessica Zheng, and Polar Puffs & Cakes helped make the celebration possible.

MINDS Raintree SSCC provides structured learning and social opportunities for its students while giving caregivers much-needed respite. The partnership with the Lions Club aimed to give every child a chance to express themselves and feel included in community celebrations. The students' Christmas socks remain on display at Fernvale Community Club until the end of December. The event underscored the importance of inclusion and hands-on creativity during the holidays. For the Lions Club of Singapore Lotusia, it marked a first step in building community ties through shared festive experiences.
