Sikorsky ridicules Putin's claim of no aggressive intentions towards other countries

In a surprising turn of events, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski responded ironically to Vladimir Putin's statement about Russia's intentions. Putin, in a post from the Russian Foreign Ministry, asserted that Russia "has never had and will not have any intentions to attack anyone."

The response from Sikorski, made on various social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, X.com, VKontakte, OK.ru, Instagram, Telegram, and RSS, was an ironic comment: "Never-ever. Trust us."

The reminder was not a confirmation of Putin's statement about Russia's intentions, but rather a response to it. The ironic tone of Sikorski's comment was not lost on users, who reminded that Russia had made similar assurances before its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The reminder was made by multiple X users and was also reported by Euromaidan Press. Charter97.org, another news organization, followed the accounts of the mentioned social media platforms and reported the Polish Foreign Minister's response.

It is important to note that Sikorski's comment was not a confirmation of Putin's statement about Russia's intentions. The comment was made in an ironic manner, suggesting a degree of scepticism about Putin's assurances.

Before the full Russian invasion of Ukraine, US President Donald Trump gave similar security guarantees during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders in Washington in August 2025, discussing military security guarantees including possible troop deployments near Ukraine and NATO-like mutual defense commitments. However, these assurances did not prevent the invasion from happening, emphasising the importance of maintaining a cautious and critical approach to such statements.
