Signify Lights Up 100 Villages Along the Indo-Nepal Border by 2026
Signify, the global leader in lighting, has launched a major project to illuminate 100 villages along the Indo-Nepal border. The initiative, announced in December 2025, aims to boost safety and economic activity in remote communities. Partnering with Tarq Foundation, the company will install LED streetlights under its Har Gaon Roshan CSR programme. The 1,700 km Indo-Nepal border has struggled with poor street lighting for years. Limited visibility has affected mobility, local trade, and community safety. Each village was chosen based on resident feedback, foot traffic patterns, and specific security concerns.
Guided by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji, the project marks a key step in empowering border regions. Signify's solution uses energy-efficient LED technology, designed for long-term reliability. The company has a strong sustainability record, holding the EcoVadis Platinum rating for five years and a place in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for eight. With annual sales of €6.1 billion in 2024, Signify specialises in professional, consumer, and IoT lighting. Investor details are available on their Investor Relations page, while updates can be followed via their Newsroom and social media channels.
The lighting of 100 villages will provide brighter, safer public spaces for thousands of residents. The project aligns with Signify's broader commitment to sustainability and community development. Further progress updates are expected as installations advance.
