Should you still hang onto that item you haven't used for a year, or is it time to part ways?

Closet decluttering tip: "If you haven't used an item in a year, consider getting rid of it." This tip encourages reflection and challenges one to consider the reason for neglecting certain items.

Is the unused item from a year ago still in your possession? Should you hold onto it or discard it?

Should you still hang onto that item you haven't used for a year, or is it time to part ways?

In a reflective mood, I find myself pondering over my wardrobe, contemplating the items I keep and the ones I let go. I'm not one to adhere strictly to any specific criteria, but I do find value in holding onto high-quality, classic pieces, even if they go a year or more without being worn.

Last week, for instance, I felt an unexpected urge to wear my Vans. I'm glad I kept them, as they brought a fresh sense of excitement to my outfit. Initially, I had considered donating them due to their perceived bulkiness and masculine style, but I'm grateful I reconsidered.

My approach to clothing has evolved over time. I used to be quick to let go of items once they lost their usefulness, but I've since taken a more tempered approach. I now consider the long-term potential of trendy or low-quality items, recognising that they may not stand the test of time.

I'm curious, dear readers, do you have a criteria for deciding what to keep and what to let go of? The advice "If you haven't worn it in a year, let it go" is a common guideline for decluttering wardrobes. But I wonder, why haven't I worn it in a year? Is it because it truly doesn't work, or does it just need breathing room?

I've also learned to distinguish between clothes that truly don't work and clothes that just need a chance. I'm no longer a fan of keeping things "in case I need it one day," as it can easily lead to clutter. Instead, I'm learning to embrace each item and give it the space it deserves.

I'm interested in hearing where you stand on this matter. Let's engage in a conversation about our personal styles, the items we cherish, and the ones we choose to let go of. Here's to a more mindful approach to our wardrobes!
