Shoe designer Penelope Chilvers repurposed two adjoining spaces, resulting in an expansive kitchen setting.
Penelope Chilvers' Transformed Kitchen: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
In the picturesque countryside of Gloucestershire, shoe designer Penelope Chilvers' kitchen underwent a remarkable transformation. The project was masterminded by her husband, Alexander Master, and designer Arabella Youens, with the renovation carried out by George Miller of Neptune.
The kitchen, originally three workmen's cottages knocked together, presented a unique challenge due to its varying room sizes and ceiling heights. To address this, a free-standing prep table was added in the center of the kitchen, providing additional work surfaces.
The renovation aimed to retain the cottagey feel of the room. To achieve this, pieces from three different kitchen collections were thoughtfully combined. The base-level cabinetry boasts timber doors, while the Shaker-style cabinets above are painted in a sage green.
A modern touch was introduced with the inclusion of a Quooker hot tap, a smart addition that avoids cluttering up the kitchen counter with a kettle. Above the prep table hangs a Marina pendant from Neptune's lighting range, casting a warm and inviting glow.
Penelope Chilvers added her personal touch to the room, hand painting butterflies on the walls inside a glazed wall cabinet. Elsewhere in the kitchen, open shelving houses her collection of baskets and ceramics. A roller hand towel adds a nostalgic feel to the space.
The windows are adorned with Merino wool curtains, a cosy touch by Tori Murphy. Above the sink, a charming view of the countryside greets the eye.
The renovated kitchen, now short on space no more, stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, a perfect reflection of Penelope Chilvers' unique style.
