Sheriff's Office in Alexandria initiates recruitment website due to 12 vacant deputy positions

The Alexandria Sheriff's Office (ASO) has launched a new recruiting initiative, inviting potential candidates to join their ranks through the newly created platform, JoinASO.com. The office is currently facing a staffing shortage and is actively seeking new deputies to fill 12 vacancies.

To qualify for the position of deputy sheriff, applicants must meet several requirements. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and hold a valid driver's license. Moreover, potential deputies cannot have been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the United States Military, cannot have been convicted of a felony offense or an offense that would be classified as a felony in Virginia, and cannot be listed as the respondent to a protective order.

New deputies with law enforcement and/or Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services certifications can expect an annual salary of $67,667. Entry-level deputies, however, will start at an annual salary of $61,375. Lateral hires from other law enforcement agencies will receive a $10,000 hiring bonus, according to a job listing.

Last year, the Alexandria Sheriff brought back retirees to address the staffing shortage. This move demonstrates the office's commitment to maintaining a robust workforce to serve the community effectively.

The ASO is also offering competitive salaries to future employees transferring from other police authorities. However, it's important to note that the figures mentioned, which include an annual basic salary of about €300,000 plus bonuses, totaling nearly €390,000, are related to the Alexandria Fire Department, not the Sheriff's Office.

As the Alexandria Sheriff's Office continues to grow and evolve, it offers a unique opportunity for those seeking a challenging and rewarding career in law enforcement. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit JoinASO.com to learn more about the application process and available opportunities.
