Severous head-on collision east of Leipzig.
In a shocking turn of events, a head-on collision occurred east of Leipzig on Thursday afternoon at around 3:45 PM. The crash, which took place on a country road between Ammelshain and Polenz, involved a Mercedes SL classic and a Seat Leon.
The drivers of both vehicles, a 62-year-old individual driving the Mercedes and another 62-year-old driving the Seat, were seriously injured in the accident. Tragically, their grandson (10), who was a passenger in the Mercedes, was also injured. Emergency services, including multiple fire departments and ambulances from Polenz, Naunhof, and Ammelshain, were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
A helicopter was also called to the accident, indicating the severity of the situation. All three injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries, however, remains unknown at this time.
The S45 was fully closed for several hours due to the accident, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area. Both vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed away.
In an unusual turn, the traffic accident investigation unit has initiated an investigation into reckless endangerment in connection with the crash. The name of the driver of the Mercedes, who is believed to have lost control of his vehicle in a right curve, has not been found in the available information.
