Federal Police Directorate Bad Bramstedt Responds to Pepper Spray Incident at Lübeck Railway Station

On July 2, 2025, a 38-year-old German reported to the Federal Police at Lübeck Railway Station that he had used pepper spray to defend himself against a threat from another passenger on a train from Lübeck-Travemünde.

The report triggered an emergency chain, and calls were received from the Regional Control Centre Southwind and the Emergency Control Centre Hannover stating that several people had been injured due to the use of "gas" in a train. As a result, the affected platform and track areas were temporarily closed by the Federal Police due to emergency measures.

Rescue services and state police patrols were dispatched to the railway station. After treatments were completed, the affected persons were able to continue their journey independently. The train was temporarily suspended due to the pepper spray incident.

The 38-year-old will now have to answer for the use of pepper spray for dangerous bodily harm. A criminal complaint will also be filed against a 32-year-old German who is said to have previously threatened the 38-year-old.
