Services provided by Google are experiencing outages in Turkey and certain regions within Europe.
Google experienced a widespread outage earlier today, affecting various services and regions across Europe and Turkey. The exact nature and extent of the outage were not specified, but reports suggest that users in Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, and Germany encountered problems accessing websites, YouTube, and some phone contacts linked to Gmail.
The outage began around 7am GMT, according to Downdetector, a popular outage tracking website. Services on Google were mostly restored before 9am GMT, as per the same source. In Germany, an uptick in Google disruptions was reported by allestoerungen.de, a German outage tracking website, around 9am local time (7am GMT).
Meanwhile, Turkey's cybersecurity watchdog has requested a technical report from Google regarding the outage. The Freedom of Expression Association in Turkey reported an internet outage on Alphabet's Google around 10am in Turkey. However, the name of the employee from the Turkish cybersecurity authority who made this announcement is not publicly available.
A map posted by Omer Fatih Sayan, the Deputy transport and infrastructure minister of Turkey, shows Turkey, large parts of southeast Europe, some locations in Ukraine, Russia, and western Europe as affected by the Google outage. Despite multiple requests, Google did not respond to an emailed request for comment on the matter.
The reason for the outage remains unclear at this time. As of 10:30am GMT, the number of reports of service disruptions on Google had decreased, according to Downdetector. It is hoped that the issue will be fully resolved soon, and Google users can return to their normal activities.
