Get ready, cinema enthusiasts! Berlin is set to host a vibrant array of film festivals this September, showcasing a diverse range of genres, styles, and countries. Here's a rundown of what's in store.

First up, the Festival of Animation (Sep 26-28) at silent green, Gerichtstr. 35, Wedding, and City Kino Wedding, Müllerstr. 74, Wedding, will have a special focus on Japanese animation. The festival will open with a performance by the AniManga Chor and feature the German premiere of ChaO by Yasuhiro Aoki. The event will showcase 131 animated works from 33 countries, including a special anniversary screening commemorating 65 years of the International Animated Film Association.

For those who appreciate silent films, the Silent Film Live Festival (Sep 4-14) at Babylon in Mitte promises to be a 10-day celebration of the magic of silent films.

If horror is your genre, mark your calendars for Fantasy Filmfest 2022 (Sep 3-10) at Zoo Palast in Charlottenburg. Highlights include the chilling "Good Boy," a horror film about a man and his dog who move to a remote farmhouse and experience supernatural events, and "Bone Lake," a contemporary erotic thriller about a couple's stay at a remote lakeside estate.

The Queer Film Festival will screen some of the year's boldest, funniest, and most beautiful queer cinema. The exact dates and location are yet to be announced.

For fans of regional cinema, filmPOLSKA (dates TBA) will focus on debut or second feature films. The competition programme of filmPOLSKA 2022 will feature highly anticipated works such as "Glorious Summer" and "Flowers of Ukraine."

The Kurdish Film Festival (Sep 25-Oct 1) at Babylon, Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. 30, Mitte, will offer a unique insight into Kurdish cinema.

The Idiocinecratic screening series curated by Eli Lewy will feature overlooked, rarely seen, and outright forgotten films. The first film of the series is Sarah Jacobson's "Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore" from 1996.

Lastly, Hump! Film Festival (Sep 23-24) at Babylon Kreuzberg, Dresdener Str. 126, Kreuzberg, will feature 22 spicy adult short films.

To top it all off, Film Without Borders will take place at Eibenhof Bad Saarow, Alte Eichen 33, Brandenburg from Sep 11-14. The festival will have six competitions: International, German, New Talent, Commissioned Films, Pink Panda, and feature films.

And if you're a film lover on a budget, don't miss Kinofest 2025 (Sep 13-14), offering €5 tickets to all films screening in participating cinemas across Germany.

With such a rich and varied lineup, Berlin is undoubtedly the place to be for film enthusiasts this autumn!
