Senegal's gambling boom nets $71m in Q1 2026 amid stricter regulations
Senegal’s gambling sector has brought in CFA40.9bn (US$71m) in the first three months of 2026. The strong revenue comes as the government pushes for better regulation and innovation in the lottery industry. A recent seminar in Dakar highlighted these efforts under the theme ‘Development and innovation of African lotteries’. The National Lottery of Senegal (LONASE) has been driving reforms to align with government goals. These include improving online traceability and tightening revenue collection. Much of the country’s gambling now happens digitally, often crossing national borders.
Finance Minister Diba stressed the importance of tackling underage gambling and addiction risks. He also called on the African Lotteries Association (ALA) to keep fostering cooperation and technological progress in the sector. The government introduced double taxation in 2025 to boost revenue and tighten oversight. Funds from the gambling industry are channelled into key public spending areas. With budget pressures rising, Senegal is focusing on generating more domestic resources through regulated growth.
The first quarter of 2026 saw Senegal collect CFA40.9bn from gambling activities. New regulations, digital tracking, and responsible gaming measures are now central to the sector’s future. Revenue from lotteries and betting will continue supporting national development priorities.
