SEEQC's Quantum Breakthrough Paves Way for Scalable Superconducting Chips
SEEQC has unveiled a breakthrough in quantum computing by demonstrating the first quantum processor with fully integrated, on-chip qubit control. The system operates at millikelvin temperatures, a critical step toward solving long-standing scalability issues in superconducting quantum technology. This achievement marks a shift in how quantum chips could be designed and scaled in the future.
The company's five-qubit processor successfully ran Single Flux Quantum (SFQ) logic at just 10 millikelvin. Tests confirmed high gate fidelity and minimal power loss, proving that digital control circuits can function alongside qubits in extreme cold. This eliminates the need for bulky external wiring, cutting down both physical complexity and thermal interference.
SEEQC's approach relies on digital multiplexing, where multiple qubits share control pathways instead of requiring separate lines. By embedding superconducting digital logic directly onto the chip, the design slashes wiring demands and reduces thermal load—two major hurdles in expanding quantum systems. The architecture mimics the integration density of modern silicon chips, aiming for the same scalability. Looking ahead, SEEQC plans to push integration further. The next steps include adding digital flux control and on-chip qubit readout, moving toward a fully self-contained quantum processor. Over the next five years, the company intends to scale rapidly: targeting 1,000 qubits by 2026, 10,000 by 2028, and ultimately 100,000 qubits to prove the architecture's potential.
This advancement removes key barriers to scaling superconducting quantum computers. By proving that digital control can operate at the same frigid temperatures as qubits, SEEQC opens a path toward denser, more efficient systems. The company's roadmap now focuses on expanding qubit counts while maintaining the stability and performance needed for practical applications.
