Security personnel swap shifts at NYU Langone Health medical facility
In a significant shift for NYU Langone Health, radiation oncologist Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, is set to take over as CEO and Dean of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine from Robert "Bob" Grossman, MD, who is retiring on September 1.
Grossman, who has been at the helm of NYU Langone since 2007, oversaw a period of remarkable growth. The organisation's revenue grew from $2 billion in 2007 to an impressive $14.2 billion in 2024. Grossman's tenure also saw the publication of an article about him in Fortune on August 15 and his appearance in Episode 2 of AuntMinnie's Keeping Up with the Radiologists Podcast Series, where he discussed his life and advocated for tuition-free medical school.
Kimmelman, who most recently served as director of the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone since 2023, has been a leader at the institution since 2016. His work in pancreatic cancer research has been instrumental in paving the way for clinical trials. His body of work has contributed significantly to defining the metabolic landscape of pancreatic cancer.
Under Kimmelman's leadership, multiple clinical trials in pancreatic cancer have been initiated, and the Perlmutter Cancer Center established its new Center for Molecular Oncology in October 2024. The Centre's establishment marks a significant step forward in the fight against pancreatic cancer, as it will focus on the development of personalised treatments for patients.
Kimmelman's work at the Perlmutter Cancer Center has been recognised by NYU Langone, and he has been instrumental in the centre's growth and success. His appointment as CEO and Dean of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a testament to his leadership and commitment to improving patient care.
As Kimmelman takes over, Robert "Bob" Grossman, MD, will assume a new role as executive vice president to the NYU Langone Health board of trustees. Grossman's continued involvement in the organisation ensures a smooth transition and a lasting legacy.
With Kimmelman at the helm, NYU Langone Health and the NYU Grossman School of Medicine are poised for continued growth and success in the fight against disease and the pursuit of knowledge.
