Second-hand container business "Fundgrube für gebrauchte Schätze" officially moves under the management of Value Market Outer Hordorfer Straße.
Second-Hand Container Opens in Halle, Supporting Climate Protection and Circular Economy
In a bid to give well-preserved items a second life and save resources and emissions, the city's subsidiary HWS has set up a second-hand container at the registration of the recycling market Äußere Hordorfer Straße. Falko Kietzmann, head of material flow management at HWS, explains the purpose of this treasure trove.
The second-hand container at Äußere Hordorfer Straße 12 is part of the climate protection strategy of Stadtwerke Halle. It is more visibly and invitingly placed after renovation, actively promoting reuse and supporting climate protection in Halle.
The container is accessible, weather-protected, and lit, making it easy for customers to browse and purchase items from Monday to Friday, between 3 pm and 6 pm. All items are sold at very favorable prices, with the project aiming to support itself rather than generate profit.
Visitors can donate well-preserved, functional items such as tableware, small furniture, toys, or bicycles at the registration of the recycling market at Äußere Hordorfer Straße 12. Donated items must be clean, complete, and fully functional.
This project is part of the Energy Initiative Halle and a concrete climate protection measure. It promotes circular economy and resource conservation in everyday life, aligning with the city's broader sustainability initiatives.
Similar second-hand containers are also available at the recycling markets in Radewell and Schieferstraße for donations and purchases. Besides Halle, other cities that offer the option to bring items to second-hand containers include Leipzig and Magdeburg.

The second-hand container makes the reuse of used items more visible and attractive for all visitors, encouraging a lived circular economy and waste avoidance.
