Scripps News Announces Strategy for Streaming Content
Scripps News, a renowned name in the world of journalism, is making a significant shift as it transitions to a streaming-only network, ending over-the-air distribution on November 18. This transition comes with an exciting new lineup of programs, designed to provide live in-depth storytelling on major events across the country.
The national, centralized news organization of Scripps News will be led by Rob Lyles. Matt Simon, Scripps News Vice President, has been tasked with leading the network moving forward, setting its vision, overall leadership, editorial identity, and programming.
In the new schedule, viewers can tune in to "Morning Rush" weekdays from 7 a.m.-noon (ET), featuring live headlines and award-winning reporting from Scripps News journalists. From noon-5 p.m. (ET), audiences can catch "On the Scene," taking them to breaking news and live events. "Good to Know," a Saturday program airing at noon, will continue to feature real-life stories of everyday people who positively impact their communities.
Saturdays will also see the premiere of "Scripps News Weekend," from 7 a.m.-noon (ET), offering uplifting stories and original reporting. The afternoon will be filled with "This Week as it Happened," a Saturday program from 2-7 p.m. (ET), recapping all the big stories and breaking news from the week.
Weekdays will see two special programs from the investigative and enterprise teams of Scripps News periodically airing on all its streaming platforms. "Happening Now in America" airs weekdays from 5-6 p.m. (ET), following major events driving the day's top stories. "Today As It Happened" is a weekday program from 6-7 p.m. (ET), updating viewers on the day’s events.
Simon stated that Scripps News will continue to deliver quality journalism, with an increased focus on integrating with local stations and showcasing original reporting across the enterprise. The upcoming special program, "In the Shadows With Jason Bellini," premieres on Nov. 21, featuring Scripps News' award-winning international correspondent, Jason Bellini, exploring international crises and finding bright parts of humanity persevering in the shadows.
Scripps News has grown its streaming viewership more than 44% year over year. The network's programming will be available on various platforms including Fire TV Channels, TCL Channel, Roku, Freevee, TCL TV, Apple TV, Google TV, The Roku Channel, iOS (iPhone/iPad), Haystack, Tivo, Fire TV, LG Channels, Tubi, Google TV, Local Now, Vizio WatchFree, Vizio, Plex, Xumo Play, Android TV, Pluto, Optimum, Android Phone/Tablet, Samsung TV, DirecTV Stream, Web, ScrippsNews.com, Sling Freestream, Fubo TV, Tivo, Tablo, and YouTube TV.
