Schweina stream flood defenses take shape with upcoming land surveys
Surveying work for new flood protection measures along the Schweina stream in Bad Liebenstein is set to begin shortly. The project will focus on a stretch from Nahkauf to Friedrich-Fröbel-Straße, extending towards Wiesenweg and Sandweg. Authorities may need to access private land as part of the preparations.
The Schweina river in this area has changed over time due to flooding, human activity, and urban growth. Modifications such as channel adjustments, embankment construction, and development have shaped its current form. However, detailed records of recent alterations remain limited.
Site inspections and surveying will start on March 16, 2026. Residents might be contacted to allow authorised personnel onto their properties. Legal provisions under Section 41 of the Federal Water Act and Section 68 of the Thuringian Water Act permit this access. The work aims to assess the land for future flood defences. The selected section runs from Nahkauf to the junction of Friedrich-Fröbel-Straße and Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße, continuing along Wiesenweg and Sandweg.
The upcoming surveys mark the first step in strengthening flood protection for the area. Property owners will be notified if access to their land is required. The project follows existing laws to ensure necessary preparations proceed smoothly.
