School Luitpold, now renewed with splendor

In the heart of Dresden, Germany, the extensive renovation of the Luitpold School, a historic architectural and urban planning gem, has been successfully completed. The ceremony to celebrate this accomplishment took place just before the summer holidays, attended by Mayor Andreas Starke, President of the Government Florian Luderschmid, Principal Monika Mühlholzl, and the school community.

The Luitpold School, built as a reform school in the Art Nouveau style between 1899 and 1901 by Hans Jakob Erlwein, underwent a meticulous renovation that began in 2024 and concluded in 2025. The project cost a total of 2.23 million euros, with funding secured through the Municipal Investment Program (KIP-S), the Upper Franconia Foundation, and the Bavarian State Foundation.

The restoration of the facade's ornamentation and fairytale motifs was particularly demanding, yet the city's property management demonstrated a commendable commitment throughout the process. The historic tower, an integral part of the school's structure, also received attention during the renovation.

The renovation included renewing windows with sound protection and external sun protection, ensuring the school remains a comfortable and modern learning environment. The tower's renovation was funded by the Upper Franconia Foundation, the Bavarian State Foundation, and the Bavarian Office for the Preservation of Monuments.

Mayor Starke praised the successful implementation of the construction project, emphasizing the excellent cooperation among all parties involved. He expressed his appreciation for the dedication and hard work that went into preserving this significant historic monument, now more than just a relic of the past, but a lively school with a diverse pedagogical profile.

Today, the Luitpold School stands as a testament to the city's commitment to preserving its architectural heritage while ensuring its educational institutions remain vibrant and modern. The school's renovation serves as a beacon of hope for the preservation and revitalization of historical buildings in Dresden and beyond.
