Scholarship and School Support Initiative: DBP Introduces Inspire Programme to Assist 350 Students and 150 Educational Institutions

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has embarked on a significant corporate social responsibility (CSR) program called the DBP Integrated Scholastic Programme for Inclusive and Responsive Education (DBP Inspire). The five-year initiative, launched by DBP President and CEO Michael de Jesus, aims to enhance access to quality education at both basic and tertiary levels.

The DBP Inspire program has allocated a total of PHP 507.5-million for various collaborative endowment and support projects in the education sector. The program is designed to supplement government efforts, particularly in the areas of improving classroom facilities and providing learning equipment.

One of the key beneficiaries of the DBP Inspire program will be the Department of Education's (DepEd) Adopt-a-School and Brigada Eskwela programs. An additional PHP 72.5-million will be given to these initiatives, which will be used to improve classroom facilities and provide learning equipment for 150 public primary and secondary schools nationwide.

In addition to these infrastructure improvements, the DBP Inspire program also includes a scholarship program. A substantial portion of the funding, PHP 437.5-million, has been allocated towards this scholarship program, supporting 350 students. This scholarship program will cover tuition, matriculation fees, and other expenses for students enrolled in engineering, accountancy, education, agriculture and forestry, sciences, maritime studies, information technology, and technical-vocational courses.

While the DBP Inspire program does not specify the exact nature of the endowment and support projects for the educational institutions or regions that will benefit from the initiative, the bank is collaborating with DepEd and partner higher education institutions to optimize the use of resources.

The DBP Inspire program is aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s vision to prioritize education in the national development agenda. Michael O. De Jesus, the president of the Development Bank of the Philippines, stated that the program reinforces the bank's commitment to supporting the education sector.

The DBP Inspire program does not mention any specific educational institutions or regions that will benefit from the initiative, but it is expected that more details will be announced in the coming months as the program progresses.
