Saudi efforts successfully remove 915 landmines in Yemen

In a significant humanitarian effort, Saudi Arabia's Project Masam successfully removed 915 explosive devices from Yemen last week. The operation aimed to clear villages, roads, and schools, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and ensuring the safe movement of civilians.

The project, headed by Dr. Fahad Al-Mubarak, offers support to Yemenis who have been injured by explosive devices. The removed explosives included 880 unexploded ordnances, 14 improvised explosive devices, 13 anti-tank mines, and 8 anti-personnel mines. These devices, planted indiscriminately, posed a threat to civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.

Project Masam, which began in 2018, has made considerable strides in clearing mines. Since its inception, the project has cleared a total of 510,527 mines. This is a testament to the project's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Yemeni people.

The project also trains local demining engineers and provides them with modern equipment. This approach not only ensures the effective clearance of explosive devices but also empowers the local community.

The demining operations took place in various regions of Yemen, including Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada. The clearance of these areas will undoubtedly bring a sense of safety and security to the Yemeni people, allowing them to rebuild their lives.

In conclusion, Project Masam's efforts are a significant step towards a safer Yemen. The project demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of the Yemeni people and a dedication to ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. As the clearance operations continue, we hope to see more progress towards a peaceful and secure Yemen.
