Saudi Arabia strengthens its Advisory Board with two new selections
The Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, or KSA) has bolstered its Advisory Board with the recent appointments of Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken and Marjolein Hoogland. These new members bring a wealth of expertise in legal and judicial matters, as well as clinical psychology with a focus on addiction and substance use research.
Marjolein Hoogland, the National Chief Advocate General of Ressortsparket, part of the Dutch court of appeal, boasts a career background in legal and judicial matters at a high level of the Dutch legal system. Prior to her current role, she served as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the District Court of The Hague.
Dr. Ingmar Franken, a full-time professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, heads the Centre for Addiction and Substance Research in Rotterdam. His extensive experience and unique knowledge make him an excellent addition to the Advisory Board.
Both Franken and Hoogland will serve three-year terms on the advisory board, which is chaired by Anita Vegter. The Advisory Board, created in 2014, has been providing unsolicited and solicited advice to the gambling regulator. With these latest senior-level appointments, the Advisory Board is now at full strength with 11 members in total.
The Dutch Gambling Authority has also issued warnings to three operators for breaching the Wwft, or the Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prevention Act. However, these companies won't be subjected to immediate enforcement penalties. All licensees are expected to ensure their compliance with the existing laws, including the guidelines under the Wwft.
The KSA published its second assessment of the gambling rules changes from 2024 earlier this summer. The Advisory Council, working in tandem with the Advisory Board, continues to play a crucial role in providing guidance and recommendations to the gambling regulator.
