Sarah Hazzard Slaymaker, a beloved figure in Lancaster County, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 95, in Brethren Village Retirement Community, Lititz, Pennsylvania.

Born to Lawrence S. Hazzard, Esq. and Frances Peck Hazzard, Sarah graduated from Halsted School in Yonkers, New York, Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, D.C., and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. Following her graduation, she worked as an Executive Secretary for General Foods Corporation during the 1950s.

In 1959, she married S.R. Slaymaker II and moved to the Slaymaker family home, White Chimneys, in Gap, Pennsylvania. Sarah was a devoted wife and mother, and she is survived by her step daughters, Elizabeth S. Steckler (Donald) and Caroline Morgan Hale Slaymaker, her daughter Susan S. Burger, her son Samuel C. Slaymaker III, four grandchildren, and was predeceased by her husband, S.R. Slaymaker II, a grandson, Richard Lee Burger, Jr., and a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Steckler.

Sarah was deeply involved in many Lancaster County non-profit organizations as a volunteer. She served on various boards and committees for organizations such as the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County, S. June Smith Center, Anchorage Breakfast Program, Woodward Hill Cemetery Foundation, and the Rock Ford Foundation. Her philanthropic support extended to numerous non-profit organizations in Lancaster.

A Memorial Service for Sarah Hazzard Slaymaker will be held at Bellevue Presbyterian Church on September 19, 2025, at 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in honour of Sarah can be made to Bellevue Presbyterian Church (BellevueEPC.org) or the Woodward Hill Cemetery Foundation (WoodwardHillCemetery.com).
